On a Real Salt lake squad with its fair share of veterans, it seems that everyone could still learn a thing or two from Chris Brown, a consummate professional who has tasted success at virtually every level and seen time at nearly every spot on the field. After serving primarily as a forward during his first seven professional seasons, Brown learned a new trick or two upon his arrival in Utah in 2005 after being thrust into service as a fullback and wide midfielder when injuries and national team call-ups decimated the squad for long stretches. While playing in just nine games for RSL's first-team in 2006, Brown stayed sharp at forward in MLS Reserve Division play, leading the RSL Reserves with five goals in 10 appearances. It appears Brown will resume his regular role up top in 2007, but don't be surprised to see him once again on the depth chart at all three field positions.

A native of Portland, Oregon, Brown's game blossomed under the development of Clive Charles, who coached Brown at the club (FC Portland), collegiate (University of Portland), and U.S. Under-23 levels, the latter for whom Brown was named an alternate for the 2000 U.S. Olympic squad. Now entering his ninth season in MLS in 2007, the versatile Brown is hoping to add an entry for Real Salt Lake to an impressive resume that includes four high school championships, an Under-18 National Club title, numerous U.S. Youth National Team appearances, an NCAA College Cup semifinal appearance, and an MLS cup crown as a member of the 2000 Kansas City Wizards.

Coach Ellinger's Call…
"Brownie is a solid player who has experienced a lot of different soccer scenarios over the course of his career. To have someone who has been through so many things and brings such a valuable perspective is important to us, as we have many young players who need veterans they can look up to. Brownie always works hard and I know that if I need him to step in a fill a role, I can call his number and he will be ready. We asked him to switch positions (to right back) and he reacted as we all expected: professional and team oriented. I know that Brownie is a guy who I can count on to do whatever is best for the team. Players like that are invaluable."
