Acquired
RSL: Acquired in a trade with Toronto FC along with a 2008 first round MLS SuperDraft pick and cash considerations on 5/22/07 in exchange for FW Jeff Cunningham.TOR: Acquired via trade from D.C. United on 12/12/06 in exchange for a partial player allocation.
DC: Selected in the first round (1st overall) of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft.
After making several roster moves throughout the first three months of the 2007, perhaps the most important for Real Salt Lake came on July 16, when the squad acquired Kyle Beckerman from its Rocky Mountain Cup rival, the Colorado Rapids, in a deal that sent a struggling Mehdi Ballouchy to the Rapids. The trade seemed to pay immediate dividends, as Head Coach Jason Kreis implemented a three-man central midfield trio of Beckerman, fellow newcomer Nathan Sturgis, and veteran Carey Talley that quickly gelled to solidify the middle of the field for RSL. The energy, skill, and bite in Beckerman's game made him "Public Enemy #1" in Salt Lake City as a member of Colorado, but those traits have now endeared him to his new fans and teammates - and have added an element to the RSL roster that was missing during the first half of its campaign.
