RSL: Selected in the first round (14th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft on 1/18/08Raw athleticism, an imposing presence, a determined work ethic and an eagerness to learn best describe defender David Horst after his first full year of professional seasoning. A product of Old Dominion's college soccer program and former USL Premier Development League Defender of the Year with the Hampton Roads Piranhas, Horst grew up in rural Pennsylvania and called his Mom "coach" when he started playing soccer in high school. His unique blend of size, skill, speed and tenacity allowed him one "trial by fire" senior-team game in 2008, RSL's 3-4 loss at Houston on August 16 in place of suspended center back Jamison Olave. After getting a front-row seat for his development into a first-team professional last year, the promising Horst will look to push Olave and another stalwart in the middle, Nat Borchers, while continuing his tutorial from one of the League's all-time great defenders, RSL assistant coach Robin Fraser.

2008: Was RSL's second choice in the first round (14th overall) during the 2008 MLS SuperDraft on 1/18/08 in Baltimore Made his first team debut on 5/27 @ CLB, starting and playing the full 90 minutes in RSL's 0-2 USOC loss Started and scored an unfortunate own goal in the first half of RSL's 1-4 loss on 7/09 v. Santos Laguna in XanGo Cup 2008 Made his first career MLS appearance and start on 8/16 @ HOU, playing all 90 minutes in RSL's 3-4 loss Finished 2008 RSL Reserves season 2nd in MIN (921), T-2nd in GS (10), and T-3rd in GP (11) Saw first action in an RSL uniform on 4/06 @ CHV in MLS Reserve Division play, starting and playing the full 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw at center back Tallied his first assist in an RSL uniform for the RSL Reserves on 8/30 v. COL.

Earned 2007 PDL Defensive Player of the Year award after leading the Hampton Roads Piranhas to a league-high 10 shutouts and a 14-0-2 regular season record During his four-year high school career at Pine Grove H.S., was named to the Regional All-American and Pennsylvania All-State Soccer teams, and was the Schuylkill League Player of the Year, Soccer Scholar Athlete and was named to the League's First-Team all four years Helped Pine Grove to the PIAA District Championship and played with FC Leeds United The multi-talented athlete was also named to the All-State Basketball team his senior season.
Personal
Son of Robert and Linda Horst, the latter serving as his youth coach while growing up in Pennsylvania Brother of Bobbi-Jo Ramsey and Steven Horst Favorite movie is "Braveheart" Majored in Civil Engineering while attending Old Dominion and finished his academic career by taking online courses during his rookie season with RSL in 2008.
