Citing "unfinished business" from his original stint with Real Salt Lake in 2005, Clint Mathis returned to the team midway through the 2008 campaign and was immediately called upon to serve in an effort to boost the Utah side's playoff chances. "Cleetus" would indeed deliver, appearing on Real Salt Lake's 18-man roster from the get-go and starting in six of the squad's last eight regular season games during the pivotal stretch that saw the team qualify for its first MLS Cup Playoff berth. An MLS veteran with European and international level experience, Mathis brings savvy and a fighting spirit to the field whether he lines up on the right side of the midfield or as a withdrawn striker, both roles in which he played during his '08 return to the Claret-and-Cobalt.
