"Death, taxes, and Carey Talley" could become the new slogan for reliability, as the veteran midfielder returns for his 11th season in MLS and third as a member of Real Salt Lake. Known for his durability in the defensive midfield - he made at least 20 league appearances for the tenth time in as many seasons in 2007 - it is all too easy to overlook Talley's underrated passing skills and work around the goal, as his three goals last year were tied for the third most on the squad and marked his highest goal count since the 2002 campaign. Talley's winning pedigree and decade of experience in America's top-flight league will go a long way in helping to mesh a new-look Real Salt Lake squad in 2008, but it's the intangibles he brings to the table - a competitive nature, willingness to do the dirty work, and vocal leadership - that will keep him as a leader in what is becoming an increasingly talented and crowded RSL midfield.
