Acquired
RSL: Selected in the second round (13th overall) in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft on 1/14/05Another member of the John Ellinger's U.S. Under-17 pipeline, Real Salt Lake midfielder Jamie Watson has quickly endeared himself to fans and teammates alike in Salt Lake City. While he saw his playing time diminish in 2006 with the arrival of Chris Klein on the right flank, Watson continued his role as a main cog on RSL's MLS Reserve Division squad, which he helped to a third-place finish in the League's 12-team single-table standings.
While he's expected to come off the bench again in 2007, Watson's tenacity and experience playing against the best competition possible means he'll be up for the challenge of gaining first-team minutes. After helping his North Texas ODP squad to a national championship in 2002 - earning the tournament's MVP award in the process - Watson would join Ellinger at the U.S. U-17 Residency Program in Florida, which led to Watson making more than 50 appearances for the USA at the U-17 and U-20 levels. Watson then began to prove himself with the University of North Carolina, leading the squad in scoring during both his years in Chapel Hill before taking the leap into the Generation adidas program and Major League Soccer following his sophomore season.
