Real Salt Lake's Internship Program

In order to accommodate a broad array of disciplines, Real Salt Lake offers internships in all facets of the organization, from grassroots marketing and customer relations to communications, game-day and operations. Each Real Salt Lake internship presents a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the daily operation of a world-class, Major League Soccer team year-round, including in-season and off-season. All internships at Real Salt Lake are eligible for college credit, unpaid monetarily but extremely valuable in terms of experience and exposure with one of America's premier sports and entertainment properties. Real Salt Lake Internships fall into three terms that coincide with the college/university calendar:

  • Spring: January 15th through April 31st
  • Summer: June 1st through August 31st
  • Fall: September 1st through November 30th

Marketing/Promotions Intern
Real Salt Lake's Marketing and Promotions interns have the unique opportunity to learn the organizational aspects of promoting a professional soccer team via public and media relations, grass-roots marketing, event production and promotional creativity. The responsibilities of this position include assisting with various marketing projects and promotional activities throughout the community as well as during game competitions (sponsorship fulfillment, corporate events and game-day atmosphere enhancement). Candidates for this position should have a full-time commitment and flexible schedule as many promotional events fall on weekends, evenings and game days.



Operations Intern
Real Salt Lake's Operations interns will have the opportunity to service all aspects of a professional sports organization. The ideal operations intern possesses a love of the big picture with a heightened sense to the minor detail and an extreme sense of urgency. Some of the duties of the Operations intern include: preparing for game day through stadium setup, managing logistics, assisting in team administration, game production and overall coordination of the stadium and team. If you love it when a plan comes together, executing to the last detail and thinking on your feet to ensure success, then the RSL Operations Internship is for you.



Media Relations/Public Relations Intern
Real Salt Lake's Communications interns will have the following job responsibilities:

 1. Responding to media requests
 2. Pitching unique story angles to print and electronic media
 3. Assisting in statistical analysis and record keeping
 4. Research
 5. Management/distribution of press clippings/video clips
 6. Assisting with the generation of team publications
 7. Produce content for both the English/Spanish sections of the website
 8. Managing donations request(s)
 9. Assisting with special events

This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills. Real Salt Lake's Broadcast interns work directly with the Communications and Operations Departments, as well as the team's radio and television broadcast partners. The primary responsibility will be working with the various local, national, and international broadcast media before, during, and after games, as well as during the week in preparation for various elements, including features and coaches/highlight shows in both English/Spanish. It is important for this individual to be available for the majority of RSL home games.



Hispanic Marketing/Communications Intern
The requirements for this position are as follows:

 1. Written and oral fluency in Spanish
 2. Journalism and Communications background preferred
 3. Soccer (Futbol) knowledge - International and Latin American Football
 4. Writing samples in English and Spanish
 5. Ability to translate content from English to Spanish and vice versa
 6. Possess interpersonal and public speaking skills
 7. Represent Real Salt Lake at public events
 8. Produce content for the Spanish section of the website



Seat Sales Executive Intern
Real Salt Lake's Ticketing Executive interns will have the opportunity to learn about one of the most pivotal aspects of a professional sports team's front office-ticket sales. The candidate should possess a strong business concentration with an added interest in marketing. He/she should have excellent interpersonal skills and be energetic, enthusiastic, and have strong communicative abilities. He/she should also be self-motivated, competitive, and have a willingness to both learn and adapt. A Ticketing Executive Intern will have the following responsibilities in addition to other assignments.

 1. Learning the core elements of RSL Sales 101 (The Science of Sales) and 102 (The Art of Sales) as well as Customer Relationship Management.
 2. Developing specific ticketing strategies for specific markets
 3. Developing marketing campaigns specifically for ticket sales
 4. Creating promotional materials targeted at specific groups
 5. Coordinating/cooperating with other departments in order to maximize ticket sales
 6. Setting up, managing and representing Real Salt Lake's at youth soccer and corporate trade shows
 7. Interact daily with clients and prospects sharing the benefits of our team and addressing the needs and concerns of those groups.
 8. Assisting the sales team during games to make sure our clients are having an excellent time at our games and events.



Equipment Manager Intern
Interns will assist the Equipment Manager in a variety of daily tasks. These will include:

1. Field preparation
2. Equipment preparation and maintenance
3. Assistance with practices and team transportation
4. Assisting in setting up the home locker room
5. Any other tasks as assigned by the Equipment Manager

This position requires availability between 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. during the week and all day for home games. The intern will be attending and working on the sideline for all home games. Some travel may be required at times.



Athletic Training Intern
Interns will have the opportunity to enhance their abilities in this area. Superior knowledge of taping and bandaging techniques, along with adequate knowledge of modalities and rehabilitation techniques is required. Must be willing to perform tasks that are minimal in appearance, but crucially important to the overall success of the team. Other requirements include:

1. CPR and First Aid certification
2. 800 Hours in training room setting
3. Junior standing in college
4. NATA certification, or preparing to sit for exam

A career goal in ATC or PT/OT is required.
